Kendal in Cumbria sits in a valley that is fed by multiple rivers and becks and as a result has experienced several floods in recent years. The Environment Agency is working to reduce the flooding with the creation of a range of NFM (Natural Flood Management) measures in the hills surrounding Kendal.
Dr Nick Chappell of Lancaster University is researching the effectiveness of some of these projects, and our soil moisture units are contributing to his work. We installed two units in the area east of Kendal near Birds Park Reservoir.
